Fangs of War: Vampire Military

Mansplat

After watching zombies serve their country in horror war movies for the last several decades (click HERE to read my super duper comprehensive research), it's about time vampires were drafted into military service. I don't care if you eat or suck on your countrymen – every monster should represent their flag.

In Fangs of War (2012), creatures of the night finally get their marching orders. It's 1944. Every country in the world worth mentioning were disrespecting each other with explode-y things. And the Nazi Supernatural Division (kinda like an after school 4-H club with guns) has taken up residency in Castle Dracula. Why? For one thing, well-appointed bathrooms. Secondly, to unlock the secret behind Dracula's immortality. Why? Beats the Goth outta me.

A new spin on the whole 1897 Bram Stoker tale, you have OSS agent RM Renfield in place of the fly-eating lickspittle (I love that word), Lieutenant Jonathan Harker (formerly a real state agent who went to great lengths to get that sales commission), Dr. John Seward (house manager of an insane asylum), and Anna Van Helsing, daughter of Professor Abraham Van Helsing, world renowned vampire hunter (nice work if you can get it).

The plan is to unite forces (along with Texas sharpshooter Quincey Morris) to form a covert special ops team and surprise the Nazis and shoot them in the facial area. The plan looks good on paper. But someone forgot that Dracula and his brides (Drac's a polygamist as well as a fancy dresser and blood connoisseur) also live in the castle and don't like drop-in guests. In all, Fangs of War sounds like a face-shooting/face-biting good time.

With three wives, I bet Dracula gets nagged a lot.

The allies fight over Dracula

Quiet Earth

1944. The greatest evil wants immortality. History is at Stake. What a great logline. Based on the idea that the Nazis and Allies vie for control over Count Dracula, I'm really digging this coming wave of historical re-imaginations. Hopefully at least one of them is good.

Dracula lined up to take on the Nazis in Fangs of War

Andy Erupts

Dear Lord Zombie Jesus! Is nothing sacred?! I've made no secret of my love of both Dracula and cinematic horror's go-to villains, the Nazis. However, some crazy kids have come up with the idea of introducing the two to each other in Fangs of War.

Anglo-American Stealth Media Group are planning to introduce this project to potential buyers at this year's Berlin Film Festival and has quite the international flavour, being a Canadian, Chinese and German co-production, directed by Jim Donovan and scripted by Geoffrey Gunn .

Jim Donovan is directing and currently casting. Siren's Geoffrey Gunn penned the script. Inside, you'll find the art and a full synopsis.

Inglorious Basterds meets Dracula?

Films From The Basement

That's the gist of what Canadian director Jim Donovan is shooting for with his upcoming Fangs of War, a war-torn retelling of Bram Stoker's classic tale.

According to Screen Daily, the flick is set in Nazi occupied Transylvania during 1944. The film will shoot in Europe and China with Celina Jade (The Man With The Iron Fist, Legendary Assassin) co-starring. Ken Nakamura and Fang Yi Ning produce.

There isn't much more to say at this point other than the project sounds ambitious and intriguing. If it's even half as good as author Kim Newman's Dracula mash-up novels Anno Dracula and Bloody Red Baron (both of which need to be made into movies STAT), then this could be a fun film.

As always, we'll keep you updated on this project as it develops.

"Fangs Of War" Has Dracula Sink His Teeth Into World War II

MOVIE BUZZERS

Though I tire of the recent slate of vampire films as much as most of you probably have, I thought this one at least had a pretty good concept behind it: ShockTillYouDrop reports that at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival Stealth Media Group is going to be shopping around Fangs of War, a movie that sets Bram Stoker's Dracula during World War II. The script was written by Geoffrey Gunn (Siren) and Jim Donovan (Pure, Provocateur) is attached to direct. This is definitely a concept that could turn out to be entertaining with enough money behind it… after all, we all know that horror films with great ideas behind them can ultimately fail if the budget isn't there, so good luck in Berlin!

The movie's website features the above teaser poster and a few casting announcements — Celina Jade (The Man With the Iron Fist) as Anna Van Helsing and Gabriel Freilich (Dark Shadows) as Nazi Vampire Mundt, but it's obviously very early in the production process. The film is expected to shoot in June and already has Canadian, Chinese, and German investors involved, which shows that Germans have no problem making a Nazi Dracula movie. Awesome.

World War II Nazis Hunt for Dracula's Power In FANGS OF WAR

SciFi Mafia

It's no secret that Hitler was into the occult. This premise has allowed for many a supernatural story to emerge. The Nazis want everything supernatural. They want the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the key to demons of another plane in Hellboy, the power of the Witchblade, the Scroll of the Ultimate in Bulletproof Monk, Werewolf Women of the S.S.(nuff said),… the list goes on and now, they seek the secret to immortality!

ShockTillYouDrop reports that Stealth Media Group is presenting a project called Fangs of War to the 2012 Berlin Film Market. Fangs of War is a re-imagining of Bram Stoker's Dracula in a World War II context "where the Nazis and Allies vie for control of Count Dracula and his legendary powers." Jim Donovan (Provacateur, Pure) is set to direct a script by Geoffrey Gunn (Siren).
